It has almost been a decade since the concept of smartphones was introduced and through the years the utility of this gadget has become all the more dynamic. When it was introduced, it was thought to be useful as because users could stay connected to the web world on the go and store all the necessary info. However, presently our smartphone has turned into our personal assistant who keeps a tab on our move and keeps providing us with all the necessary information.
Two of the most prominent personal digital assistants that have come up in the recent time are Google Now and iOS 9’s Proactive. The idea of a personal digital assistance was pioneered by Google and when this software gained popularity among the users, Apple also introduced its own personal digital assistance software called Proactive. As a matter of fact Proactive was introduced in 2015 WWDC by Apple. Siri, the digital assistance in iOS platform was present from the beginning itself. However, Siri helps iPhone users, only when they ask for assistance. Proactive will be complimentary software to Siri that is going to provide users with relevant information before users might ask for it. Thus Proactive and Google Now are softwares belonging to same genre, and let us see which one is a better PDA.
Google Now runs on all Android platforms starting from Jelly Bean 4.1 and up. Moreover, it is compatible with iOS platform as well. However, Proactive is compatible with only iOS platform and in all probability from iOS 9 and up.
There are many similarities between these two platforms as they were built for serving the same purpose. In both the apps search queries can be entered in the search box and result will be available on the screen instantaneously. So next time you have a query, be it weather forecast, movie timing, any particular store’s location, no need to open your phone’s browser, just click on your gadget’s PDA.
However, in Proactive users will get to see the results of top website only. But in Google Now along with the best result, other links containing information on the same thing will be also present. So if you are not satisfied with the result that gets displayed on the screen, click on the links to know more.
With the help of Google Now and Proactive users can also start search in contacts or emails or notes by simply entering the keyword. This again search becomes easier with the help of these PDAs. You have added events in your calendar; these two softwares are going to guide you to reach the destination even before you ask for it.
Both Google Now and Proactive have their own uniqueness. Android users will be happy to use Google Now as it keeps a tab on all the emails on your mail box and keeps updating you. For eg: If you have your flight tickets in your mail box, then you will get constant alert about its departure time in a card and that is definitely convenient. Google Now also displays cards for due dates of bills you need to clear, places of interest according to your location and many more. Just in case you cannot remember where you have parked your car, then Google Now can also lead you to your car. All you need to do is ask it: “Where is my car?” Instantaneously it is going to show the location of your car in a map.
In gadgets running on iOS, just swipe your finger to the left and the Proactive software will appear along with the suggested contacts and apps. The suggestions that appear on the screen are not random ones, but selected according to the user’s usual needs. For contacts Proactive try to analyze the calling pattern of the user and suggest accordingly.
The best feature of Proactive is perhaps its ability to identify callers from unknown numbers. At first, Proactive will look into your mail box to look out for similarities. Just in case, there are no similarities, it will provide you with the location from where the call is being made. Thus helping you to decide whether you should take the call or not.
Which of these two is better?
Both these apps has its own uniqueness, which is definitely praiseworthy. While Proactive’s caller ID, app and contact suggestion feature is commendable, the way Google Now filters info from mail box and constantly displays cards is admirable.
Proactive will be available to the users from the last quarter of this year and we might get to see added features once it is released. Therefore, Google Now must pull up its socks and add new features to this software, thereby giving a tough competition to Proactive.
